OK people, the impending doom that is hurricane Wilma is moving in on us ever so slowly, but it is moving in on us. Now, you would think that a hotel booking website would do something for it's customers if they planned on taking a vacation this weekend, but due to the hurricane they now can not. Well, hotels.com didn't do shit for my parents. They planned on going to Halloween horror nights this weekend in Orlando, but now because of the hurricane they obviously have greater concerns. Now early this morning my dad tried to cancel his hotel reservation through hotels.com oh so helpful customer care number where he was informed that since the hurricane is not going to hit on the day of the reservation they are still going to charge him for the room. Now this company has posted a travel advisory for all interests in the Florida peninsula, and here it is:
TROPICAL STORM WILMA
According to the National Hurricane Center,at 9 a.m. CDT, the northwestern eyewall of Hurricane Wilma nears Cozumel. Wilma is still considered a Category Four Hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Scale with maximum sustained winds near 145 mph.
A Hurricane Warning remains is in effect from San Felipe to Chetumal on the Yucatan peninsula including Cozumel and the nearby islands.
A Tropical Storm Warning and Hurricane Watch remain in effect from west of San Felipe to Celestun.
A Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for Belize from the border with Mexico southward to Belize City.
All interests in the Florida Keys and the Florida peninsula should closely monitor the progress of extremely dangerous Hurricane Wilma http://www.hotels.com/promotion.jsp?id=2990
Apparently an extremely dangerous hurricane isn't dangerous enough to cancel hotel reservations. Now does hotels.com expect people to drive home in the hurricane? Apparently so because they wouldn't even acknowledge the fact that that's what my parents would have to do if they didn't cancel their reservations. Right now my dad turned the fight over to his bank, but I want to give him some help. E-mail these bastards here: http://www.hotels.com/ContactCustomerCare.jsp?js=1&zz=1129914881500
Just say it's regarding Dan Keagins' Orlando hotel reservation at that you will never use their service again because of it.
Now they are evacuating places ten miles from my house right now in Naples, yet a state of emergency and evacuations are not enough to cancel a one night hotel reservation. Let's give a round of applause for the moronic customer service agents at hotels.com.
